Individual Component:
Each patient is individually assessed by the various team members. Ratings are taken at the beginning and end of the program to permit an assessment of outcomes. Each patient and their referrers receive a detailed report with recommendations for ongoing management. Individual treatment options are also provided. Our Rehabilitation Physicians can provide targeted interventions before, during or after the program.
Medical Component:
The medical component of the program involves review of pain medications, medication information sessions and, where appropriate, procedures such as CT guided joint injections, local guanethidine infusions and botox injections.
Physiotherapy Component:
The physiotherapy component of the program involves daily exercises in the pool or gym. Stretching routines and self-massage techniques are taught and practised. The exercise program aims to encourage ongoing commitment to regular exercise as a pain control mechanism.
Psychology Component:
The psychology component of the program involves classes on structured stress management, breathing control, progressive muscle relaxation, sleep hygiene, reduction of dependence on medications and how to minimise pain by developing a regulated pace of activity. Individual consults are available as required.
Nutrition and Dietetics Component:
The nutrition component of the program focuses on food choices for the maintenance of health and well-being with a specific focus on how food can affect pain. Individual consults are available as required.
Individual Discharge Conference:
A final case conference for each patient provides assessment of progress and follow up recommendations to both patients and referrers.
